The JCR notes that...

I. Univ JCR currently receives nothing from the SU that it cannot provide on its own.

II. The mandate of the SU to represent Univ students is weaker than that of the JCR, given the low turnout in its elections.

III. The JCR has a good working relationship with the College, meaning it maintains a reliable method of communication for its members to raise issues to the wider University. In addition, members of the JCR executive are in contact with counterparts from other colleges, allowing for communication and collective voice.

IV. Disaffiliation would not remove SU membership from any Univ students, meaning JCR members would retain access to the services provided by the SU.

V. The JCR can reaffiliate to the SU at any time.

The JCR believes that...

I. The activities of the SU, through the Conference of Common Rooms, have been largely irrelevant to students, and have been disappointing in effect given the resources available to them.

II. Disaffiliation would prompt a rethink of student democracy and the nature of the SU on the part of the University, the SU, and other College JCRs.

III. JCR members deserve a more direct, more representative voice to the University than the current SU.

The JCR proposes that...

I. The JCR notifies the SU Sabbatical Officers of our intention to disaffiliate, effective immediately.

II. SU affiliation is reviewed at the end of Trinity Term 2025.
