THE COMMITTEE

The JCR has a committee made up of students, who are all here to help you!

The Executive

Orla Hutchinson
Hi! I’m Orla (she/her), a second-year historian from London. As Treasurer, I’m in charge of allocating and managing the JCR’s budget. This money is used to better all aspects of student life, from funding societies and sports clubs to providing free period products in the bathrooms in college. As JCR members, you’ll get a say in how this money is spent at JCR meetings! I’ll also be the one leading the yearly rent discussions with college alongside Rob. One of my most important jobs is to be a friendly face around college, to help you and answer any questions you may have about the JCR or life at Univ. Please feel free to reach out to jcr.treasurer@univ.ox.ac.uk or orla.hutchinson@univ.ox.ac.uk with any questions!

VP/Treasurer

Robert Mylne
My name is Robert, I’m a second-year historian from Edinburgh, and I’m the JCR President this year. My job is to make sure that the undergraduates are represented to college, and communicating our needs to the staff is a key part of improving college life for everyone. I also work with the whole JCR Committee, who run events and make sure everything runs smoothly. It’s important to me that I’m accessible to all JCR members, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any concern or comment - you can reach me at jcr.president@univ.ox.ac.uk or robert.mylne@univ.ox.ac.uk

Rose Joslin
Hi! I’m Rose (she/her), a second year PPEist from Manchester, and I’m this year's JCR VP/Affairs. As VP my role is to support Rob, helping him communicate with the wider JCR and key college staff. Being head of JCR Affairs, or Secretary, I schedule, send out agendas for and minute our fortnightly JCR meetings. These are super accessible (not to mention the free pizza), so I really recommend attending and getting involved! Please contact me at jcr.secretary@univ.ox.ac.uk if you would like to send in a motion: recent motions include ‘Motion to fund Univ Swimming Team” and “Motion to buy a JCR Bike Pump”. Apart from being JCR VP/Affairs, I am also Univ’s Women*s Rep, ensuring Univ is a welcoming and inclusive place for all genders! If you have any questions about the JCR, life at Univ, PPE or anything else, drop me an email either at jcr.secretary@univ.ox.ac.uk or rose.joslin@univ.ox.ac.uk. Enjoy your summer and I’m looking forward to meeting you all in October!

Julian Wong
Hiya! I’m Julian (he/him), second year PPEist from Hong Kong. My task as LGBTQ+ Rep is to support the welfare and safeguard the interests for our community, and to make sure everyone can thrive while living their authentic selves! If you have any concerns or suggestions, or simply want to discuss more in a safe environment, feel free to reach out to me anytime (ching.wong@univ.ox.ac.uk). I also help relay information and organise a few queer-themed social events, like the LGBTQ+ History Month Formal. The Tuesgays event run every Tuesday during term time by the LGBTQ+ society is also great fun, and you can also look forward to Pride which is held in June. Last note, remember that there is no one "correct" way to be queer. You don't need to look a certain way or do certain things to make yourselves feel "up to par". The very point of queer liberation is so that everyone of us can be our authentic selves!

Albert Ma
Hey! My name is Albert (he/him) and I’m a 2nd year biochemist. I was born in Houston but went to high school in Shanghai, and I’ll be your international student rep for Michaelmas term. Having moved twice, I know it can be difficult, scary even to move countries, and I’ll try to help in any way that I can. Whether that means organizing international formals, or fresher week mixers, or just being a friendly face to talk to, I’ll try to help the transition into university as much as possible. Genuinely, please please please reach out or just say hi if you want!

Daaud Ali
Hi everyone! I’m Daaud (he/him) , and I'm so excited to be your RAEM Rep. I’m a medical student, and I'm passionate about building a strong and supportive community for all of us from ethnic minority backgrounds. My main priority is to create safe and empowering spaces where we can connect, celebrate our diverse heritages, and share our experiences. I'm here to listen and amplify your voice. If you have any suggestions, or just want to chat, please don't hesitate to get in touch, and look out for our events throughout the year!

Max Rozenfeld
My name is Max (he/him), I’m a 2nd Year Med student, and until the end of Michaelmas, I’m the rep for Students with Disabilities. Very simply, I know how hard it is to manage Oxford with a disability, and I’m here to help in any way I can. Please reach out with absolutely anything, from exam requirements to smaller everyday struggles. No ask is too small :) Reach out at @maxrozenfeld_ or max.rozenfeld@univ.ox.ac.uk - and join the students with disabilities WhatsApp community (link in the JCR group chat) to hear about any events we plan. Input always welcome!

Hi everyone, my name’s Naima (she/her) and I’m a 2nd-year PPE student. As your RAEM rep, I hope to show you that being an ethnic minority in Oxford gives you a wonderful community, especially in Univ! Part of my role is ensuring you have somewhere to direct any questions about being an ethnic minority in college, so if you do have any questions please contact me!

Rosie Lawson
Hi! My name is Rosie, I’m a second year Mathematician from Sunderland, and I’m your JCR Class Equality Rep. As a Crankstart Scholar from a state-educated background, I stepped into this position to support students like me in their time at Univ. My role is to ensure Univ remains a welcoming college for students of all class backgrounds, be a point of contact for any JCR member facing class-related discrimination, and to do my best to break barriers working-class students may face, allowing you to make the most of your time here, no matter your background! Coming to Univ, I was nervous that I wouldn’t meet anyone from a similar background to mine, but found that there is a great deal of diversity here. I would love to help you make the most of this by gathering JCR members to attend 93% club/Class Act events together, being available to answer questions about financial support available to you throughout your time here, and (most excitingly) hosting a subsidised inter-collegiate Class Equality formal! If you have any queries, feel free to drop an e-mail to rosie.lawson@univ.ox.ac.uk

Hi All! I’m Jack (he/him), a second-year Lawyer from the United States, and one of your three welfare reps for this upcoming year. Along with Iona and Katie, I’m here to help and offer guidance to help make your time at Univ as wonderful as possible. I know there are moments at Oxford which might feel stressful or difficult. My job is to direct you to those within the welfare team who can best address your needs and to lend a helping hand wherever possible. Of course, your time at Oxford should be filled with intellectual gratification, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fit some fun events and gatherings in-between those long hours in the library. Stay tuned for welfare teas and 5th week events! Ultimately, I’m here to offer help where you need it, and hope to be a friendly face around college. Please reach out! We are Liv (she/her), a third-year classicist, and Isadora (she/her), a third-year biochemist, and we’re your hall and accom reps this year! As Hall and Accom reps our job is to help answer your questions about housing and dining throughout your time here at Univ. We serve as a point of contact between the JCR and college management for everything room and food related. Primarily, we are in charge of running the ballots for choosing your accommodation for second and third year. This entails organising open houses, photographing rooms, and generally helping you to make informed decisions about where you’ll be living. However, if you have any questions about your upcoming accommodation in first year, we’re happy to answer those as well! Additionally, we’re involved with both everyday dining and Univ’s biweekly formals. We organise a few special dinners each year as well - details to follow soon. We are also happy to pass along any comments regarding meals to the kitchen team. Hey! I’m Jude, a second year CAAHist from Kent, and I’ll be your access and equal opportunities officer this year. This means I’ll be working with the other equality and diversity reps to coordinate events and other campaigns. These will focus on raising awareness, making life at Univ easier and more accessible for students from underrepresented backgrounds, and creating a community in college where you can find people with similar experiences to you and make new friends! As someone with a physical disability, a member of the queer community and someone from a less privileged socio-economic background I know how daunting coming to University can be and the kind of challenges it can pose, so if you ever need a chat or advice please feel free to contact me! Equally, if you have any issues, queries or ideas for events/campaigns do let me know over email, or come up to me in college (I promise I’m friendly)!

My name is Max (he/him), I’m a 2nd Year Med student, and I’m this year’s academic affairs officer. What does that mean? In the most extreme cases, it means that if anyone finds themselves struggling academically and either wants or needs help or intervention from college, I can act as a point of contact, and as someone who will fight for you in meetings with them. But my role isn’t one that indicates any sort of failure. It is there to promote positive and pro-active academic habits, from the moment you get here to the day you graduate from your undergrad. And that’s why I’m recommending to you all, whether you’re an incoming student or going into your finals year, to make as much use of the academic support on offer as possible. We have the privilege of being able to attend 2-3 academic skills lectures a term, and have academic student support services available to us, which begins the academic year without a waiting list. Links are at: https://unioxfordnexus.sharepoint.com/sites/UNIV- AcTS Feel free to reach out with absolutely anything – I’m here to support! @maxrozenfeld_ / max.rozenfeld@univ.ox.ac.uk
