The JCR notes that...

I. The Eglesfield Musical Society is the oldest running musical society in Oxford and stages an annual large-scale musical each Trinity Term, centred around students of The Queen’s College. The annual production provides opportunities for between 60 and 100 students to participate across performance, technical, and organisational roles, accommodating a wide range of prior experience. This year’s production of Guys and Dolls will take place in an immersive, circular staging in the Queen’s College gardens, transforming the space into multiple dynamic settings and integrating audience members into the performance.

II. The production offers significant training and professional development opportunities, including workshops with industry professionals such as a West End musical director and an intimacy coordinator.

III. The total cost of the production is substantial, particularly due to the technical demands of outdoor staging, including approximately £5000 for specialised lighting and sound equipment.

IV. Despite multiple funding sources, there remains a gap between available funding and overall costs, with a break-even point of 99.8%

V. Univ student Ruby Davis is a member of the Cast for this production.

VI. Univ student Scarlett Peacock is the assistant director of this production.

The JCR believes that...

I. Supporting student-led artistic productions enriches college life and fosters a strong sense of community, collaboration, and creativity.

II. Large-scale productions such as Guys and Dolls provide invaluable practical experience and skills development for students across disciplines.

III. The innovative and immersive nature of this year’s production represents a valuable cultural contribution to both the college and wider Oxford community.

The JCR proposes that...

I. Give £50 in support of the production of 'Guys and Dolls'.
