The JCR notes that...
i. The Oxford Egyptian Society (henceforth known as EgySoc) is a newly funded student society, with deep roots in Univ.
ii. The society is open to all members of the university, with a goal of promoting Egyptian culture and providing a space for students interested in Egyptian music, food, culture, history, and more.
iii. The society holds numerous events in college, which are open to all students to join.
iv. The society’s president and secretary are both active members of the Univ community.
v. Some events we plan to host include Egyptian food events, hieroglyphics courses, quiz nights, game nights, and more.
vi. Egysoc does not charge for membership, to keep the society accessible to all.
vii. There are no current societies in the university providing a similar experience.
The JCR believes that...
i. Part of its mandate is to support student-led activity that enriches college & university life.
ii. EgySoc provides students at Univ the opportunity to connect with other students interested in all aspects of Egyptian culture, and empowers students from minority backgrounds.
iii. Financial support from the JCR would enable the society to host further events and support activities to enrich the student-life of its members.
The JCR proposes that...
i. Allocate £100 to the Oxford Egyptian Society to fund events and help support the society.
