The JCR notes that...

i. The Oxford Somali Society is a self funded student society, with aims of promoting cultural connections and awareness.

ii. The society is open to all members of the university, with a goal of promoting Somali culture and providing a safe space for Somali students, as well as all other students, through focusing on events such as Somali potlucks, cultural dance classes, and hosting speakers.

iii. The society holds numerous events in college, which are open to all students to join.

iv. In a commitment to accessibility, Somali Society does not charge for membership or events.

v. The Oxford Somali Society's president (Naima Aden) is a member of the College.

The JCR believes that...

 

i. Part of its mandate is to support student-led activity that enriches college & university life.

ii. Cultural societies like Somali Society provide a home away from home for ethnic mintory students, and creating community is a large goal for Univ

iii. Financial support from the JCR would enable the society to host further events and support activities to enrich the student-life of its members.

The JCR proposes that...

i. Donate £200 to the Oxford Somali Society to fund events and help support the society.
