The JCR notes that...
i. The Mizakhani Society is a student society promoting women and non-binary students in STEM and Mathematics
ii. The society is open to all women in STEM and has an emphasis on outreach events to encourage more girls and non-binary students to pursue mathematics.
iii. The OxWim (Oxford Women in Maths) Conference occurs once a year in the Mathematical Institute and is open to students around the country, aiming to promote careers in Maths and giving a platform for female and non-binary mathematicians to speak and share knowledge with younger girls and non-binary students.
The JCR believes that...
i. part of its mandate is to support student-led activity that enriches university life
ii. societies like Mirzkhani provide a community for women and non-binary students studying in courses dominated by male students. Creating community is a large goal for the JCR
iii. Financial support from the JCR would enable Mirzkhani Society to sponsor travel expenses/enable outreach for the Women in Maths conference by attracting mostr students from across the country.
The JCR proposes that...
i. Donate £200 to the Oxford Women in Maths Conference to fund the conference and support the event.
